Nature’s Revenge

By Rajinder Singh ‘Arshi’

The nature is rebelling, turning on its heat, thanks to the indiscretions of humans, perpetrated over centuries. We have toyed with nature, irresponsibly, unashamedly, both in the way we treat mother earth, the environment and the manner in which we treat each other. There is flagrant abuse of norms of human behaviour and relationships towards each other.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS) is forward looking, and foresees the predicaments we humans face and would face for centuries to come. Naam (Name, Word) is the greatest antidote of all time. It’s a panacea of all ills, generated by our lifestyle, chasing the falsehoods of Maya. By attaching to Naam, not only do we change our lifestyle, commensurate with Gurmat, but also underscore a line of Divine Sanctity and Protection. Guru Arjan Dev Ji blesses (SGGS 819):

Taatee vaao na laagaee Parbrahm sarnhaaee.

Chaugird hamaarei Ram Kar Dukh lagei na bhaaee.

(The woes of the elements (heat/cold) do not affect those who enjoy the Supreme Lord’s protection. They are surrounded by the wall of Lord’s Love and Protection. Pain will not afflict them.)

Guru Arjan Dev Ji continues:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਦੀਆ ਏਕਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (ਪੰਨਾ 819}

Satguru pooraa bhaiteaa Jin banhat banhaaee.

Ram Naam aukhadh deeaa Aikaa liv laaee.

(I’ve met the True Guru, accomplished in all the sublime attributes of the Spiritual World. He has conferred upon me the Naam, the panacea of all our woes and ills. The power of Naam keeps my mind and spirit focused on the One (Ik Onkar). Pause.)

ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਤਿਨਿ ਰਖਨਹਾਰਿ ਸਭ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਸਹਾਈ ॥ (ਪੰਨਾ 819}

Raakh leeai tin rakhanhaar Sabh biaadh mitaaee.

Kahau Nanak kirpaa bhaee Prabh bhae sahaaee.

(The Merciful Lord has rescued me and eradicated all traces of worldly and spiritual ills. Says Nanak, I am blessed, the Lord has bestowed upon me the gift of His shelter and support.)

It is imperative therefore that we pay heed to SGGS, our only Guru and stop chasing rainbows projected by self-appointed god-men.

SGGS is the treasure of spiritual knowledge, the divine ship to ferry us across the stormy ocean, here and beyond through the various realms to the Realm of Sach Khand, to be one with the Nirankar (the Formless Lord)
