An old proverb says:
Speech is silvery, Silence is golden.
But, can speech be ‘golden’ or even more precious and endearing? It’s true, if you have nothing good to say to outweigh the many benefits of silence, it’s best to keep mum. Speech based on noble values, however, is often hailed as ‘pearls of wisdom’. So do break your silence when you’ve something nice to say.
Noble values do not come easy. One must rein in the negative traits, like greed and ego, to nurture good qualities. So listen to the voice within, with the Grace of your Guru.
Our inner mind holds the most potent powers that we are, often, unaware of. The mind derives it’s power from our real-self (the Inner-most consciousness), which is part of the Divine Light. However, it is not always easy to access it, due to the innumerable distractions that our conscious mind indulges in.
In Japji Sahib’s sixth pauri, Guru Nanak enlightens:
But, if you’ve nothing good tor nice to say, mum’s the word.
