Anand Sahib (19th Pauri)

Inwardly soiled and devious,but outwardly displaying a clean image.

Those who present a clean image outside but are impure within, gamble away their opportunity to redeem themselves.

Struck by the malady of greed and worldly pleasures, one forgets the finality of death.

The whole objective of the scriptures is to stress the importance of Naam (Lord’s Name); yet we refuse to take heed and wander aimlessly.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਤਜਿਆ ਕੂੜੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਜੂਐ ਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੧੯॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 919}
Says Nanak, those who forsake Truth and cling to falsehood, gamble away their lives. (19) SGGS 919

Notes: Covering up evil and negative traits by a pristine outside image, drives us further away from our root, our soul. This will further perpetuate our propensity towards more serious transgressions.
