KITNE COOL HAI^N HUM ! (a light-hearted quiz)

In the modern times it is considered cool to:

1. call your parents ma and pa rather than mummy, daddy or the traditional mata ji pita ji;

2. call your siblings sis, bro rather than bhen ji and veer ji;

3. call your friends by ultra shortened nicknames, e.g. Pappu as Pups, Bunny as Buns, Pammy as Pams or Pamzy, Charle as Chas etc;

4. wear baggy worn out jeans ripped at the knees, instead of neatly ironed trousers;

5. don razor cut beards, earrings and gold chains as opposed to a sober, traditional appearance (re: your faith and fraternity);

6. don Mohican cut (or similar) hair styles rather than neatly groomed traditional hairstyle;

7. visit clubs and pubs instead of places of worship and charitable institutions;

8. join clubs (lions, rotary, freemasons and others) rather than great institutions of your own fraternity;

9. listen to din (err… they call it music) at weddings and social occasions rather than conversing with friends and relatives not seen for a long time;

10. read the latest English novels and magazines as opposed to cultural, historic and religious books;

11. visit cinemas and theatres instead of visiting elderly folks living isolated lives;

12. drive a 2-door, open roof racy sports car instead of a 4-door saloon car;

13. visit Taj Mahal and others wonders of the world at the expense of your own famous places of worship;

14. spend most leisure watching TV, internet etc rather than reading, joining in the art of conversation;

15. Spend a fortune on cosmetics and deodorants but refuse to give donations for good causes;

16. celebrate anniversary of the first meeting with wife/husband and forget parents’ birthdays;

17. have the latest mobiles and mod cons but also a string of credit cards;

18. party with friends and colleagues at home while the parents must stay cooped up in their bedroom;

19. always eat with knife and fork instead of relishing a finger-licking experience;

20. drive a posh car to a club/restaurant on the back of a huge loan.

21. make time for every activity except simran and prayers;

22. be less inclusive and relate only to a close-knit group of friends and selective family members;

23. go on holidays with partner’s family rather than own parents/siblings;

24. wear caps instead of turbans, except when visiting Gurdwara or attending family functions;

25. insist on a separate civil marriage bash, when this could easily be organised at the place of worship on the day of the wedding ceremony.

Note: Generally aimed at men but ladies too can benefit from the self-appraisal.
