ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਚਾਲ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥
The lifestyle of devotees is quaint (distinct & pious).
ਚਾਲਾ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ਭਗਤਾਹ ਕੇਰੀ ਬਿਖਮ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲਣਾ ॥
Their lifestyle being distinctively pious, they tread a testing and difficult path.
ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਤਜਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੋਲਣਾ ॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 918}
Renouncing greed, avarice, egotism and other worldly desires, they silently tread their path (ignoring all slights and snubs). (918)
ਖੰਨਿਅਹੁ ਤਿਖੀ ਵਾਲਹੁ ਨਿਕੀ ਏਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
They tread a path sharper than a sword and finer than hair.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਆਪੁ ਤਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
Those who, with Guru’s Grace renounce their self-interest, are able to shed all their worldly desires by constantly focusing on the One.
ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚਾਲ ਭਗਤਾ ਜੁਗਹੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥੧੪॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 919}
Says Nanak, the lifestyle of devotees has been pious and distinctive from time immemorial. (14) SGGS 919
