ਸਾਚੀ ਲਿਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਹ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ॥
Without genuine and sincere attachment to the One, the human shell is without merit.
ਦੇਹ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਲਿਵੈ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਚਾਰੀਆ ॥
Meritless is that body, within which there is no true devotion. But, what can the poor, helpless, creature (mortal) do?
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝੁ ਸਮਰਥ ਕੋਇ ਨਾਹੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਬਨਵਾਰੀਆ ॥
No one, accept You, can claim to be all powerful and Eternal. Bestow upon us Your mercy, O Benevolent Creator.
ਏਸ ਨਉ ਹੋਰੁ ਥਾਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਸਵਾਰੀਆ ॥
There is no refuge, except the sanctuary of Your Name. Embracing the Shabad (Word) is the only way to enlightenment.
ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਲਿਵੈ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਚਾਰੀਆ ॥੬॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 917}
Says Nanak, apart from devout piety, there’s little the poor mortal can do.
