Many refer to their faith as a ‘way of life’, including many Sikhs. Is that a correct definition. A way of life could just amount to a ritualistic observance of one’s faith. Many go through life doing no more than that.
Adopting a faith must go beyond that. The ultimate goal must be be to break the shackles of Kaam, Krodh, Lobh, Moh and Ahankar (Lust, Rage, Greed, Attachment and Egotism). Sadly a precious few achieve the goal of shedding the five negative traits, referred to as Punj Chor (Five Thieves) ….. thieves, because they negate all the good work one may have done, by dragging them back into the grip of worldly temptations.
Only a precious few success in evading Maya, the network of worldly razzmatazz, attachment to greed, power & desires.
The Ninth Nanak leaves us in no doubt:
“Day and night the mortal wanders in search of wealth.”
“Only one in crores, says Nanak, keeps Ik Onkar (God) in his consciousness.”
