Self-promotion and personal interests dominate the true objectives of the Sikh identity. Most Sikh leaders are not adept in balancing the two cardinal aspects of the true Sikh identity, that of miri (temporal) & piri (spiritual). They are either too philosophical and ignore the practical consequences of a particular course of action, or too practical at the cost of the Sikh Sidhants (rules, values & discipline of righteous living). This is the basic cause of divisions both in India and amongst the Sikh Diaspora.
Notwithstanding the above, there are a precious few souls, who regardless of worldly honours & recognition, serve humanity as dictated by their conscious & their inner voice.
